WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Terone Johnson scored 15 points to reach 1,000 for his career and help Purdue defeat Siena 81-73 on Sunday.
Bryson Scott led the Boilermakers with 16 points. Ronnie Johnson scored 14 points and A.J. Hammons had 12 points and six blocks for Purdue (5-0). Errick Peck did not score, but he had 11 rebounds and two blocks. Purdue's next game will be against Oklahoma State in the Old Spice Classic on Thursday in Orlando.
Evan Hymes scored 18 points, Brett Bisping had 16 and eight rebounds and Rob Poole added 12 points and 11 rebounds for Siena (2-4), which had won two straight.
Purdue shot 50 percent in the second half to pull away. The Boilermakers might have won more easily, but they made just 22 of 37 free throws.
The Boilermakers held Siena to 39 percent shooting and 1-for-10 from 3-point range.
Purdue ran out to a 17-11 lead early before Siena rallied in the middle part of the first half. Maurice White's tip gave the Saints an 18-17 lead.
The Boilermakers regained control when Kendall Stephens hit three 3-pointers in a 55-second span to push the lead to 39-28.
Stephens picked up his second foul, and Siena closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut Purdue's lead to 39-36.
Purdue made just 8 of 15 free throws in the first half. Siena, which made just 2 of its first 12 shots from the field, went 13-for-26 the rest of the half to make it a game.
The Boilermakers started the second half with a flourish -- a long pass from Ronnie Johnson to Hammons for an alley-oop dunk.
Marquis Wright's 3-point play cut Purdue's lead to 53-50.
Purdue regained control midway through the second half. Ronnie Johnson scored in traffic, then Basil Smotherman banked on a lob from Ronnie Johnson to push the Boilermakers' lead to 59-52.
Siena's Lavon Long and Imoh Silas fouled out one second apart midway through the second half, leaving the Saints depleted. Purdue remained in control the rest of the way.
Terone Johnson reached his milestone on a floater with 2:59 remaining.
