Boilermakers Move Into Third Place After Day Two at OSU

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Casey Matthews won the 1-meter diving competition to complete a weekend sweep of the springboard events, highlighting day two of the Ohio State Invitational for No. 16 Purdue women's swimming and diving.

The Boilermakers leapfrogged No. 19 Ohio State into third place with 432.5 points at end of Saturday night finals, opening up a 15-point lead on the host Buckeyes. The three-day Ohio State Invitational features four Top 20 teams competing in a 10-lane pool. No. 12 Virginia continued to hold the lead in the team scoring with 766 points.

Matthews won the 3-meter diving competition Friday with a new meet-record score, finishing first in both the prelims and finals. Saturday from the 1-meter board, she jumped from seventh in the prelims to the top spot in the finals. MacKenzie Tweardy took third and Mary Beth Dunnichay fourth to give the Boilers three of the top four finishers in the event.

Rhiannon Sheets (B final of 200 free), Stephanie Schlobohm (C final of 100 back) and Lizzy Lyon (C final of 400 IM) all won event finals Saturday. Sheets was also the runner-up in the A final of the 200 free, teaming with Carly Mercer to give the Boilers a 2-3 finish in the A final of the event behind the winner from Virginia.

Allie Davis (200 free), Hannah Manger (100 back), Francesca Marr (100 breast), Megan Gallagher (100 breast), Kylie Vogel (100 fly) and Nika Karlina Petric (400 IM) also qualified for A finals while accounting for Purdue season-best times.

Meagan Lim (100 fly), Manger (100 back), Marr (100 breast), Mercer (200 free), Petric (400 IM) and Schlobohm (400 IM) all posted Purdue all-time Top 10 times Saturday. The 200 medley relay team of Anji Li, Marr, Vogel and Mercer as well as the 800 free relay team of Mercer, Davis, Grace Hernandez and Sheets did likewise.

Alec Back placed third in the men's 3-meter diving competition to rank as the top finisher among the men's divers, competing separate from their swimmer teammates this weekend.

The Ohio State Invitational concludes Sunday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 3 p.m.
