WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Guillermo Blanco won a pair of events and four other Boilermakers were victorious in an event and the runner-up in another, leading No. 12 Purdue men's swimming and diving to a 151.5-145.5 dual victory against Miami (Ohio) Friday evening at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
Purdue (4-1 in dual meets) entered the night with a 32-6 lead after the divers finished 1-2-3 in both springboard events Oct. 18 in Oxford. The Boilermakers won 10 of the 14 swimming events Friday to close out the victory. Purdue head coach Dan Ross opted to exhibition his top finishers in four individual events as well as the 200 freestyle relay, leading to the tight final score.
Blanco won the 100 butterfly and 200 free to lead the way. Sebastien Aube, Ted Curtiss, Lyam Dias and Manuel Gutierrez were the quartet of Boilers with first- and second-place finishes. Aube rallied to win the 1000 free for his first collegiate victory. The senior was also the runner-up in the 500 free. Curtiss was victorious in the 200 backstroke after finishing second to Dias in the 100 back. Dias later finished second to Blanco in 100 fly. Gutierrez won the 200 IM after taking second in the 100 free.
Matt Friede (50 free) and James Nguyen (200 breast) also won events for Purdue Friday. The Boilermakers had the top three finishers in the 100 back and 100 fly. Friede and Adam Johnston also finished one-two in the 50 free.
Purdue's top two medley relay teams finished in a first-place tie to begin the meet. The Boilermakers' top two foursomes also finished one-two in the 200 free relay. Stephen Seliskar, Friede and Johnston were each part of relay winners in both team events. Curtiss and Dias also contributed to a relay win to go along with their individual victories.
The Boilermakers are now slated to be idle from competition until a Jan. 4 dual at the University of Hawaii. The meet will serve as the lone competition of Purdue's winter training camp trip to Hawaii during the holiday season.
