Purdue Closes Out Weekend Action at Minnesota Grand Prix

MINNEAPOLIS -- Two more A final qualifications for Guillermo Blanco and a runner-up showing from the 400 medley relay team highlighted the third and final day for Purdue men's swimming at the Minnesota Grand Prix Saturday.

Blanco qualified for A finals in four individual events this week, including the200 backstroke and 200 IM Saturday. He posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time (1:48.15) while placing sixth in the 200 IM. Lyam Dias also achieved an NCAA B cut time (1:48.40) in the 200 IM while finishing as the runner-up in the B final. Five Boilers qualified for finals heats in both the 200 IM and 200 back, including Josh Brooks winning the D final of the 200 IM.

Filip Bujoczek and Stephen Seliskar teamed up with Blanco and Dias for the 400 medley relay. The quartet posted the 10th-fastest time (3:15.24) in program history while finishing as the runner-up to the host Golden Gophers.

Individually, Bujoczek was Purdue's top finisher in the 100 freestyle, placing seventh in the B final while eclipsing the 45 second mark at 44.92. The freshman from Poland had the Boilers' best showings in the 100, 200 and 500 free this weekend. The trio of Matt Friede, Austin Flager and Adam Johnston all qualified for the C final of the 100 free Saturday. Danny Tucker was scratched from the evening session after also qualifying for the C final.

Nate Hopkins placed 12th in the mile with a Purdue season-best time (15:41.98).

The Minnesota Grand Prix is part of USA Swimming's Arena Grand Prix Series, featuring professional and independent club swimmers.

Selected Boilermakers will compete at Friday's home dual meet against Miami (Ohio), which gets underway at 6 p.m. The Purdue divers will be at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus next weekend.
