MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Purdue women's tennis doubles team of Mara Schmidt and Krisztina Kapitany bowed out of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships with an 8-3 semifinal loss Monday. The Boilermaker duo finished with a record of 3-1 in the event and is now 5-5 in the fall campaign.
No. 12 Schmidt and Kapitany, who were tabbed as the No. 1 seed, were upended by fifth-seeded Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine of Louisville. The 58th-ranked Cardinal tandem is the second ranked foe Schmidt and Kapitany have met in three fall tournaments.
The Purdue women's tennis team will close out the fall season at the Midwest Blast Nov. 1-3 in Champaign, Ill.
