CARMEL, Ind. -- The No. 44-ranked Purdue men's golf team pieced together a pair of consistent rounds to sit in third place after two rounds of the challenging Crooked Stick Invitational.
The tournament, which features six of the nation's top 50 teams, will conclude on Tuesday at the 7,290-yard, par-72 Crooked Stick Golf Club designed by Pete Dye.
The Boilermakers recorded rounds of 295-294=589 (+13) to finish the first day just four shots behind leader and No. 6-ranked Georgia (295-290=585; +9) and one shot behind 31st-ranked Florida State (292-296=588; +12) for second place. No. 25-ranked Arkansas is fourth (306-285=591; +15) while 45th-ranked Florida and 50th-ranked Indiana are tied for fifth at 28-over par 604.
Purdue was tied for second with Georgia after the first 18 holes of the day, but saw the Bulldogs surge to the lead with a two-over par 290, while Florida State, which led with a 292 after the first round, dropped two strokes to the Boilermakers with a second-round 296 (+8).
Purdue's second-round score of 294 was the fourth-best round of the day, while its 295 tied for the fifth-best score of the afternoon.
Freshman Austin Eoff, who has placed no lower than 11th in any of his first three collegiate tournaments, currently sits in a tie for third with rounds of 71-74=145 (+1). The No. 76-ranked golfer nationally, Eoff trails Arkansas's Sebastian Cappelen (-3) and Georgia's Nicholas Reach (-1).
His first-round 71 marked the sixth time in 11 rounds that he has shot par or better.
Senior Adam Schenk is in a tie for sixth at 3-over par 147 (74-73=147), while freshman Philippe Schweizer continued his improvement, finishing day one in a tie for 11th at 4-over par (73-75=148).
Enzo Perez will be looking for his first top-20 finish of the season, currently sitting in a tie for 19th place at 6-over par (77-73=150).
Sam Fu rounded out Purdue's scoring at 10-over par (80-74=154), currently good for a tie for 39th place.
Action will conclude at Crooked Stick Golf Club on Tuesday morning.
