LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Purdue men's golf team recorded rounds of five-over par 293 and four-over par 292 to finish day one of the Windon Memorial Classic in ninth place with a nine-over par 585. The Boilermakers are just five shots out of third place in the 16-team event at the Knollwood Club.
Six of the nation's top 47 ranked teams are competing and Purdue is one of six Big Ten teams playing in the competitive event. The Boilermakers trail host and 35th-ranked Northwestern by 13 shots as the Wildcats sit in second place after day one, while Purdue sits just three shots behind Michigan, which is in sixth place with a 582.
Senior Adam Schenk paced the Boilermakers on day one with a two-round score of even-par 144 (75-69) to sit in a tie for 15th place. Schenk's second-round 69 tied for the fifth-best round of the day.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Stuart Macdonald also sits in a tie for 15th with rounds of 74-70=144. Macdonald is competing in his first event of the season.
Freshman Philippe Schweizer is in a tie for 22nd place after rounds of 70-75. His first-round score of two-under par 70 put him in a tie for sixth place after the initial 18 holes.
Freshman Austin Eoff continued his strong early-season play with a two-over par 146 (72-74) to sit in a tie for 28th place. Eoff finished in a tie for fourth at last weekend's Weibring Intercollegiate in his first career collegiate action.
Enzo Perez is in a tie for 46th after rounds of 76-74=150 and Justin Cho is tied for 75th following rounds of 80-75=155.
No. 24-ranked Kent State leads the team race with a seven-under par 569, while Northwestern is second at 4-under par 572. Michigan's Chris O'Neill leads the individual race with a five-under par 139.
The third and final round will conclude Monday at the par-72 Knollwood Club.
