NORMAL, Ill. -- Led by freshmen's Austin Eoff fourth-place showing, the Purdue men's golf team opened its 2013 fall slate with a second-place finish in the Weibring Invitational at the 6,915-yard, par-71 Illinois State University Golf Course.

The Boilermakers finished with a 54-hole total of 17-over par 869 (293-286-290) to finish one shot behind Loyola, Chicago's total of 16-over par 868 (294-286-288).

Purdue led the Ramblers by one shot heading into today's final round, but the Ramblers were able to overcome the deficit and defeat the Boilermakers by one shot. Illinois State, the host school, was third with an 18-over par 870.

Eoff finished in a tie for fourth in his first collegiate competition after a final-round, four-over par 75. Eoff led the tournament after the second round at two-under par, but a double-bogey on today's 11th hole derailed his hopes for an individual title as he finished one shot behind three players. Eoff finished with a three-round total of 215 (69-71-75).

Enzo Perez turned in the fourth-best round of the day with a one-under 70 to finish in a tie for 38th at 10-over par 223 (79-74-70). He shared that position with freshman teammate Philippe Schweizer (75-74-74).

Senior Adam Schenk finished in a tie for 10th after faltering with a five-over par 76 today to finish the tournament with a four-over par 217 (72-69-76). Justin Cho finished in a 19th-place tie with a seven-over par score of 220 (77-72-71).

Purdue was the only team in the field to finish all five players in the top 40.

Purdue will return to the course next weekend, when it travels to Lake Forest, Ill., to compete in the Windon Memorial Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
