NORMAL, Ill. -- Freshmen Austin Eoff fired a 36-hole total of two-under par 140 (69-71) to help the Purdue men's golf team share the team lead after the first day of the Weibring Invitational at the par-71, 6,915-yard Illinois State University Golf Course.
Eoff, a freshman from Little Rock, Ark., showed no signs of jitters during his first career collegiate action. Playing as the fifth seed for the Boilermakers, Eoff recorded five birdies to offset three bogeys for a first-round two-under 69. His second round then featured 18 pars to take a one-shot lead into tomorrow's final round.
Eoff's one-shot lead is over teammate Adam Schenk, who completed his first two rounds in one-under par 141 (72-69). Schenk recorded eight birdies in his 36 holes of action.
Justin Cho and Philippe Schweizer are tied for 38th with a total of six-over par 148. Cho recorded rounds of 77-72, while Schweizer, another freshman, had scores of 75-74.
Enzo Perez rounded out Purdue's scoring with a 79-74=153.
The Boilermakers are tied for first with Arkansas-Little Rock in the team race with a score of 11-over par 579. Purdue was tied for third after 18 holes (293), but surged into a tie for first with the best 18-hole score of the day, a two-over par 286.
Purdue is looking for its first team title since the Butler Spring Invitational in March 2011.
