Men's Tennis Beats Iowa, 6-1

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 63 Purdue men's tennis team completed its first weekend sweep of the Big Ten season on Sunday. The Boilermakers knocked off Iowa, 6-1, at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

Purdue (16-7, 3-4 B1G) continued its success in doubles. The Boilermakers picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 2 after the Hawkeyes took the match at No. 3. Szymon Tatarczyk and Krisztian Krocsko tied the doubles score at one with a win at the top spot. The duo knocked off Jonas Dierckx and Juan Estenssoro, 8-4. Diego Acosta and Pawel Poziomski clinched the point with a win at No. 2. They defeated Garret Dunn and Chase Tomlins, 8-6. The Boilermakers are now 16-1 when they win the doubles point.

The momentum carried over into singles for Purdue. Evan Hawkins gave the Boilermakers a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Andres Estenssoro at No. 6. Next was Tatarczyk who knocked off Dunn. The Boilermaker junior used a balanced attack to throw off the 6'8" senior from Iowa at No. 2. The match was clinched by Mateus Silva at No. 5. He defeated Juan Estenssoro at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2.

Krocsko made it 5-0 over the Hawkeyes with a three-set win at No. 4. The senior was perfect in the first set, winning it 6-0. In the second, though, Dominic Patrick dominated Krocsko with a 6-1 score. The Purdue senior returned to form in the third with a 6-3 win to take the match.

Iowa (17-12, 0-7) got on the board with a win at No. 3. Matt Hagan came back to beat Pawel Poziomski, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8). Mark Kovacs wrapped up the match with a win at No. 1. He outlasted Dierckx, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3).

The Boilermakers will hit the road next week for a pair of conference matches. The team will travel to Wisconsin on Friday and Minnesota on Sunday.
