Cornhuskers Pick up Win Over Women's Tennis

LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 19 Purdue women's tennis team came up short at No. 13 Nebraska on Friday. The Boilermakers were defeated, 6-1.

The Cornhuskers (17-3, 6-0 B1G) clinched the match with a victory at No. 2 singles. Patricia Veresova knocked off Mara Schmidt in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Nebraska also picked up wins at Nos. 1, 3, 5, and 6.

Purdue (12-3, 4-2) got on the board with a win at No. 4 singles. Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum kept her outstanding freshman season going with a victory over Janine Weinreich, 7-5, 3-3 ret. That was the only match that went the Boilermakers' way in singles. Daniela Vidal and Gisella Pere made things in their matches, but ultimately fell short. Vidal lost at No. 3 to Stefanie Weinstein, 6-2, 7-6 (2) while Pere was defeated by Maike Zeppernick at No. 6, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).

Nebraska also took the doubles point. The Huskers won at Nos. 1 and 2. Pere and Bernard-Feigenbaum picked up a win at No. 3 as the duo topped Maggy Lehmicke and Izabella Zgierska, 8-5.

The Boilermakers will be back in action on Sunday as the team heads to Iowa. That match is scheduled to begin at noon.
