WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Despite receiving a combined 49 points from brothers Ronnie and Terone Johnson, the Purdue men's basketball team dropped an 86-83 decision to Santa Clara in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational on Monday.
Ronnie Johnson netted a season-high 27 points on 11-of-21 shooting for the Boilermakers, while older brother Terone accounted 22 in the loss.
The Boilers outscored SCU by a 56-20 margin in the paint and a 25-9 count off of turnovers, but could not overcome a Santa Clara offensive effort that shot 63.0 percent from the floor in the second half.
In addition to pacing the team in scoring, Ronnie Johnson also dished out a team-high six assists and shared team-high honors with three steals. Rapheal Davis led Purdue with a season high-tying nine rebounds.
D.J. Byrd tallied nine points, six rebounds and three steals in his finale in a Purdue uniform, and Sandi Marcius added nine points and four rebounds for the Boilermakers.
