HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Purdue men's golf team fired rounds of 288 (E) and 289 (+1) on Saturday to claim the 36-hole lead at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular.
With a two-round total of 577 (+1), the Boilermakers will enter Sunday's final round with a one-shot edge over rival Indiana.
Sophomore Enzo Perez turned in a sparkling first day of play for the Boilers, finishing the afternoon in a tie for third place with a total of 142 (-2). He carded a one-over 73 in the morning before firing a 69 (-3) in the second round for his best 18-hole score as a collegian.
Perez is one shot off the pace heading into Sunday's final round.
Redshirt freshman David Cooke has also positioned himself in the top 10 after 36 holes of play, totaling an even-par 144 on Saturday to head into the clubhouse in a tie for sixth place. Cooke shot a one-under 71 in the morning round before posting a 73 (+1) in the afternoon.
Sophomore Ben-Marvin Egel used an even-par 72 in the second round to get to 146 (+2) for the first 36 holes, good for a tie for 16th at the end of Saturday's action. Junior Adam Schenk is tied fr 20th place with a total of 148 (+4), while sophomore Justin Cho is part of a group tied for 31st place at 150 (+6).
Playing as an individual, freshman Jonathan DiIanni was also stellar on Saturday, finishing the day in a tie for sixth place with a total of 144 (E). He was at level par in both of Saturday's rounds.
