Boilers Win Streak Halted at Seven

DENVER - The No. 68 men's tennis team fell on the road to No. 51 Denver on Saturday. The Boilermakers lost to the Pioneers, 7-0.

Purdue (7-1) watched its seven-match win streak come to an end with the loss. The seven-match win streak tied the longest to start a season in program history. The Boilermakers also fell to 1-2 all-time against the Pioneers.

The Pioneers (1-2) started the afternoon by taking the doubles point. Henry Craig and Jens Vorkefeld knocked off Krisztian Krocsko and Szymon Tatarczyk at No. 2, 8-5. Enej Bonin and Max Krammer then defeated Diego Acosta and Aaron Dujovne at No. 1, 8-4.

The Boilermakers continued to struggle in singles. The No. 47 singles player and defending WAC Player of the Week, Bonin, knocked off Tatarczyk, 6-1, 6-0. Vorkefeld then won at No. 2 over Mark Kovacs, 6-3, 6-3. Craig clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Pawel Poziomski.

The Pioneers also picked up a win at No. 3. Krammer beat Acosta, 6-2, 7-5. Alex Clinkenbeard handed Krocsko his first loss of the season. The Pioneer won at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4. Luke Manley wrapped up the sweep with a win at No. 6. Manley defeated Dujovne, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).

The Boilermakers will be back in action next Saturday with a trip to Baylor. The Bears are ranked 14th in the nation.
