WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A sweep of the freestyle sprints from senior Lauren Gustafson and a 1-meter diving victory for Michelle Cabassol in an event dominated by Boilermakers highlighted a 179-121 dual meet loss to No. 22 Indiana for Purdue women's swimming and diving Saturday afternoon.

The meet was televised live by the Big Ten Network, marking the first live telecast in the history of the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. Purdue honored 14 seniors after the meet for their contributions to the program. The Boilermakers suffered their first dual meet loss of the season, falling to 5-1 in head-to-head action.

The divers enjoyed a big day for Purdue. Michelle Cabassol (1-meter, 305.55) and MacKenzie Tweardy (platform, 290.25) posted team season-best scores Saturday. Cabassol won the 1-meter springboard and also competed from the platforms for the first times, earning a Zone-qualifying score while finishing fourth. Casey Matthews, Mary Beth Dunnichay and Maddie Miskulin also recorded season-best scores in the 1-meter. The Boilermakers had the top five finishers in the springboard competition. Tweardy was the runner-up from the platforms.

Along with her individual victories in the freestyle sprints, Gustafson also swam on Purdue's victorious 400 free relay team with Carly Mercer, Lauren Nichols and Rhiannon Sheets. Gustafson increased her individual victory total for the season to seven and has now been part of a team-best 15 relay winners.

The 200 medley relay team of Amy Katz, Emily McIlrath, Kylie Vogel and Gustafson recorded a personal season-best time as a relay foursome while finishing second to begin the meet.

Nika Carlina Petric was one of seven Boilers to post a runner-up finish. She recorded a Purdue season-best time of 10:02.78 while finishing second in the 1,000 free. Mercer (200 free) and Sheets (200 fly) were the runner-up in their events to go along with their contributions to the 400 free relay victory.

Francesca Marr was out touched by IU's Bronwyn Pasloski by .26 hundredths of a second in the 200 breaststroke in what was among the tightest finishes of the day.

Brooklyn Snodgrass led the way for Indiana with three individual victories, sweeping the backstroke events and also winning the 200 IM.

The Boilermakers return to action next weekend for the two-day, four-team Big Ten Quad Meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin in Madison this year. Illinois and Minnesota as well as the Purdue men are also scheduled to be part of the co-ed meet.
