CHAMPAIGN, Ill./MEMPHIS - The Purdue women's tennis team had perfect opening days at the Midwest Blast and the Memphis Invitational on Friday. The Boilermakers were a combined 12-0 in singles and doubles.

The Boilermakers started the morning with a doubles match against Georgia Tech at the Midwest Blast. Daniela Vidal and Lynda Xepoleas played as the top team for Purdue and knocked off Elizabeth Kilborn and Kendall Woodard, 8-3, to give the Boilers the early edge. On the No. 2 court, Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Imogen Golder were too much for Megan Kurey and Jasmine Minor as the Purdue pair won 8-1.

The ladies had a quick turnaround and faced Wake Forest in singles. The nation's 121st ranked player Xepoleas picked up an impressive win at No. 1 over Andrea Retolaza Andrade, 6-1, 7-5. Vidal played No. 2 and was slated against Xue Zhang. Vidal gained momentum early and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory to give Purdue a 2-0 edge in the singles portion of its match with the Demon Deacons.

Bernard-Feigenbaum played No. 3 and was matched up with Karen Forman. The Boilermaker freshman continued her impressive fall season and was victorious, 6-3, 6-0. Golder completed the singles sweep against Wake Forest. The senior defeated Brigita Bercyte, 6-2, 6-1.

After a couple hours off, the Boilermakers returned to the courts to face Illinois in doubles. Xepoleas and Vidal again were the top duo for Purdue. The sophomores face Breanne Smutko and Audrey O'Connor in the closest match of the day. The Purdue pair held on to win, 9-7. At No. 2, Bernard-Feiganbaum was back on the courts, but found herself paired with the other Boilermaker senior, Gisella Pere. This duo was equally as effective as it knocked off Misia Kedzierski and Julia Jamieson, 8-5.

Pere and Claudia Escribens each played an additional singles match on the day. Pere defeated Illinois' O'Connor, 6-3, 6-4. Escribens, in her only match of the day, knocked off Minor of Georgia Tech, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.

In Memphis, Mara Schmidt and Krisztina Kapitany each had a singles match. Schmidt is competing in the White Draw and had a first round match against Abbi Melrose of Oklahoma. The Boilermaker junior was dominant throughout the match and won, 6-0, 6-3. Schmidt advances to face Alyssa Hibberd of Memphis. Hibberd advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals hosted by Purdue two weeks ago. The two will meet at noon ET on Saturday.

Kapitany is playing in the Gray Draw. She had a match against Oklahoma's Zita Engbroks. The freshmen battled back and forth in the first set before Enbroks edged Kapitany, 7-6, in the first set. Kapitany rallied in the second and cruised to a 6-2 win to force a third set. There, the Purdue rookie was again strong and won, 6-2. Kapitany advances to face Saana Saarteinen of Tulsa at 11 a.m. ET.
