WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Individual A final victories for Brian Kiel and Sean Mokhtari for the men and Lauren Gustafson and Maddie Miskulin for the women highlighted the final day of the Purdue Invitational, which saw the Boiler women finish on top of the team scores and the men place second.

The No. 20 Purdue women finished the weekend with 1119 points, topping second-place and 17th-ranked Louisville by 92 points. The No. 25 Boilermakers finished 229 behind the 23rd-ranked Cardinals on the men's side. Utah and Missouri State were third and fourth, respectively, among the seven-team fields.

Kiel won the 200 backstroke and Gustafson touched first in the 100 freestyle A final that featured four Boilers. Kiel was also the Boiler men's top finisher in the 100 back and 100 fly this weekend.

The Purdue divers competed from the platforms for the first time this season. Mokhtari's consistency allowed the sophomore to capture the men's competition after teammate Jamie Bissett faltered on his final dive and had to settle for second. The Boiler men had four of the top eight finishers in the platform and swept the diving events for the weekend after Layne Rogers placed first on the springboards.

Miskulin was tops in the women's platform competition. The junior opened and closed her list with her strongest dives of the day, finishing the round with a list-best score of 67.20 to seal the win.

Coincidentally, the closest finish of the day came in the meet's longest event. After swimming 66 lengths of the pool in the final women's heat of the 1650 freestyle, Louisville's Carly Munchel out-touched Megan Gallagher by one one-hundredth of a second to win the mile.

Gustafson out-touched Louisville's Kelsi Worrell and Carly Mercer in the 100 free A final that saw the top three swimmers all finish under 50 seconds. Gustafson and Mercer also teamed with Lauren Nichols and Rhiannon Sheets to help the Boilers win the 400 freestyle relay. Purdue won four of the five relay events over the course of the weekend.

In the preliminaries of the men's 100 freestyle, Louisville's Joao De Lucca broke the Boilermaker Aquatic Center pool record. He won his heat with a time of 42.52 to eclipse NCAA and Olympic champion Matt Grever's record that had stood since 2004. De Lucca later capped his impressive weekend by helping Louisville's 400 free relay team post an NCAA Automatic qualifying time while winning the event.

Guillermo Blanco (200 breast B final), Julia Comodeca (200 back D final), Bo Ilgenfritz (200 breast C final), Amy Katz (200 back C final) and Alex Todd (200 fly B final) won their events in the evening finals. Francesca Marr (200 breast) and Sheets (200 fly) finished as the runner-up in the A finals of their main events of the day after winning preliminary heats in the morning. Collin Baker (200 breast), Lew Gerbrandt (100 free) and Nate Hopkins (1650 free) were the Purdue freshmen that managed to win their heats in the preliminaries.

The Purdue divers return to action the weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 2 when they travel to Columbus to compete in the Purdue Invitational. The swimmers will be idle from competition until they participate in a meet in Florida during their winter training trip, which is slated for Dec. 15-23.
