DUBLIN, Ohio - The Purdue men's golf team shot 311 (+23) on Monday to finish the first round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in a tie for seventh place.
The Boilermakers are 16 shots behind tournament-leading Oklahoma State heading into play on Tuesday, but just nine strokes in back of second-place Kentucky and BYU. Due to frost in the Columbus area on Monday, play was shortened to 18 holes on day one and 36 for the tournament.
Junior Adam Schenk shot 75 (+3) on Monday afternoon to finish the opening day of play in a tie for 13th place. The Vincennes, Ind., native is five shots off the pace heading into Tuesday's action.
Sophomore Justin Cho carded a first-round 77 (+5) to move into a tie for 23rd, while freshman Jonathan DiIanni shot 79 (+7) to tie for 31st after the first round. Sophomore Enzo Perez shot 80 (+8) and redshirt freshman Edward Peters shot 88 (+16) on Monday to tie for 42nd and 59th, respectively.
Freshman Stuart Macdonald, playing as an individual, shot 79 (+7) on the day, good for a share of 31st place.
The second round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational will begin on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET with tee times of Nos. 1 and 10. Live results will be available via golfstatresults.com.
