TULSA, Okla. - Three more Boilermakers competed in the ITA All-American tournament on Monday. Aaron Dujovne was the first Purdue athlete on the courts and he was the only one to pull out a victory.
Dujovne was matched up with Tomas Hanzlik of Penn State in the first round of the qualifiers. The junior cruised through the first set to a 6-3 win before hanging on in the second set for the win. Dujovne clinched the match with a 7-6 (7) win in the frame. Dujovne is still in the tournament in doubles as well as he and partner Diego Acosta qualified for the main draw automatically.
Mark Kovacs battled Ashok Narayan of Columbia in his first singles match of the tournament. Kovacs dropped the first set, 7-5, before battling back to a 6-4 win in the second. In the third, though, Narayan was too much for the Purdue junior as he clinched the win with a 6-2 win. The loss eliminated Kovacs from the tournament.
Acosta battled the No. 24 seed Roberto Quiroz of Southern California. Though he struggled and dropped the first set 6-2, Acosta battled the Trojan in the second set to the very end. Despite the intense match, Acosta fell in the second set, 7-6 (2). The Purdue sophomore is out of the singles tournament, but will play later in the week in singles.
The other three Boilermakers, Evan Hawkins, Arthur Dobradin, and Szymon Tatarczyk, were all eliminated from the tournament on Saturday.
