Men's Golf Takes Fourth at Northern Intercollegiate

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team fired its best round of the weekend on Sunday, a 10-over 294, to wrap up a fourth-place finish at the Northern Intercollegiate.

The Boilermakers concluded the season-opening tournament with a total of 908 (+56) at Rich Harvest Farms, 20 strokes behind winner Indiana but just five behind runner-up Saint Mary's (Calif.).

Freshman Jonathan DiIanni carded a one-over 72 on the day, fueled by a an eagle on his third-to-last hole of the day, to move into a tie for sixth place with a total of 221 (+8). The tournament was DiIanni's collegiate debut.

Junior Adam Schenk also shot 72 on Sunday for the Boilers, finishing 17th with a final score of 226 (+13). Sophomore Justin Cho tied for 25th with a total of 231 (+18), while classmate Enzo Perez finsihed with a total of 233 (+20) and a share of 29th place. Senior Jakob Ziegler rounded out Purdue's five-man lineup in a 46th-place tie with a mark of 241 (+28).

Redshirt freshman David Cooke and freshman Stuart Macdonald played as individuals at the Northern Intercollegiate, finishing in ties for 53rd and 58th, respectively, with scores of 245 (+32) and 247 (+34).

Purdue will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16, when it hosts the Purdue/Midwest Shootout at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Competition is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. ET, and admission will be free.
