OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team shot a collective 297 (+17) on Sunday at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational to finish the opening round in a tie for ninth place.
Arkansas leads the tournament after shooting 283 (+3) on Sunday, though just six shots separate fourth place from ninth after 18 holes.
Freshman Jonathan DiIanni led the way for the Boilermakers on Sunday with a two-over 72, good for a share of ninth place. The Kernersville, N.C., native is four strokes off the pace heading into competition on Monday.
Sophomore Justin Cho shot 74 (+4) on Sunday to finish the day in a tie for 28th place. Junior Adam Schenk posted a first-round 75 (+5) to wrap up play in a tie for 38th, while sophomore Enzo Perez shot 76 (+6) to grab a share of 46th and redshirt freshman David Cooke rounded out the Purdue lineup with an 80 (+10) that placed him in a tie for 66th.
Second-round action will get under way at Olympia Fields at 9 a.m. ET on Monday, with the Boilermakers slated to be among the first five groups off No. 10 tee. Live results will be available via golfstatresults.com.
