BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis wrapped up day two of the IU Invitational. The Boilermakers found success in singles grabbing three individual spots in championship matches for Sunday.
In the flight one round robin, Purdue sophomore Daniela Vidal fell to the top seed Britney Sanders of Notre Dame, 6-1, 6-3. Vidal will face fourth seeded Winde Janssens of Colorado at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
In flight two of the singles tournament there is an all-Boilermaker final. Krisztina Kapitany knocked off Chrissie McGaffigan of Notre Dame, 6-3, 6-1. The win was her second as a Boilermaker. On the other side of the bracket, Imogen Golder defeated Jithme Jayawickrema of Indiana, 6-1, 6-4. Golder and Kapitany will not play each other for the final, but instead will play additional matches. Kapitany will play Katherine White of Notre Dame and Golder will play Julie Sabacinsky of Notre Dame.
Gisella Pere competed in the consolation bracket of flight three in the singles draw. There, she fell to Shannon Murdy of Indiana, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (13-11). Pere will play Carla Anzitenorio of Colorado at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
In flight four of the singles tournament, two Boilermaker freshmen have spots in the semi-finals. Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum romped Carmen Borau Ramos, 6-0, 6-0. On the other side of the bracket, Claudia Escribens came up short to Ashley Teifel of Colorado, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7). Bernard-Feigenbaum will try her trade against Teifel in Sunday's match in hopes of securing a title victory for Purdue. Escribens takes on Ramos on Sunday in the third place match.
In doubles action, Vidal and Bernard-Feigenbaum took down Causs and Murdy of Indiana in the semi-finals, 8-3. This victory secured an advance to the championship. There the Purdue duo lost a heartbreaker, 8-6, to Sanders and Sabacinsky of Notre Dame. Both other Purdue tandems dropped their matches.
