DURHAM, N.C. - The Purdue women's tennis team wrapped up action at the Duke Fab Four Invite on Sunday. Each of the four Boilermakers played in one singles match on the day.
Mara Schmidt battled in the consolation third place match of the Blue division. There, the junior faced Annat Rabinovich of . Schmidt was able to outlast the Longhorn in the first set, 7-6 (3). From there, the Boilermaker rolled with the momentum and took the second set, 6-0.
Krisztina Kapitany played her best singles match of the tournament as she battled Laura Slater of . Slater took the first set, 7-5, before Kapitany stormed back in the second. The freshman was nearly perfect as she took the frame, 6-0. That forced a tiebreak where again Kapitany came up just short, falling 11-9. Kapitany took 16th in the Blue Division.
Lynda Xepoleas was in the Black Division consolation final on Sunday. The sophomore faced Ester Goldfeld of Duke. Goldfeld is ranked No. 68 in the country. Xepoleas fought tough in the first set, but fell 6-4. In the second, the Duke sophomore was dominant as she pulled away, 6-0.
Daniela Vidal was in the White Division consolation final where she was face with the No. 10 freshman in the country, Ashley Dai of North Carolina. Vidal took a solid first set, 6-2, and seemed to be in position to clinch the match in the second. However, Dai was able to rally back and take the set, 7-6 (7). In the third set tiebreaker, Dai controlled the momentum and won, 10-4.
The Boilermakers return to action on Sept. 28 at the three-day IU Invitational.
