IOWA CITY, Iowa - The No. 72 Purdue men's tennis team was nearly perfect on Sunday as the Boilermakers travelled to Iowa and came away with a 6-1 victory.
Purdue (8-10, 2-4 Big Ten) started the afternoon off by sweeping the doubles point. Krisztian Krocsko and Szymon Tatarczyk were first as they won at No. 2, 8-6, over Matt Hagan and Will Vasos. Diego Acosta and Aaron Dujovne clinched the point with a win at No. 1. The duo knocked off Garret Dunn and Michael Swank, 8-5. Mark Kovacs and Pawel Poziomski completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3 over Tom Mroziewicz and Jonas Dierckx.
Acosta kept the momentum going in singles as he extended the Purdue lead to 2-0 with a victory in the No. 3 spot. He knocked off Dierckx, 6-1, 6-2. Kovacs was next with a win at No. 1. The sophomore knocked off Hagan, 6-3, 6-3. Evan Hawkins clinched the team win with a victory at No. 6. The freshman beat Christopher Speer, 6-2, 6-2. Next, Tatarczyk won at No. 2 to extend the Purdue lead to 5-0. The sophomore topped Vasos, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).
Iowa (1-17, 0-7) finally got on the board with a win at No. 4. Dunn knocked off Krocsko, 7-6, 6-2. Dujovne finished the day off with a win at No. 5. The sophomore beat Mroziewicz, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Purdue improves to 29-39 all-time against Iowa.
The Boilermakers will be back at home for four straight conference matches. Next Saturday, the Boilermakers will host Wisconsin at noon. The following day, Purdue will play Minnesota at noon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
