FRENCH LICK, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team shot 603 (+27) as a group on Friday and used a strong second round to move into fourth place at the end of the first day of the Big Ten Championships.
The Boilermakers shot 306 (+18) in Friday's first round before rebounding with a nine-over 297 in the second. Purdue's afternoon performance matched the third-best second round score in the field, and placed the Boilers 11 shots off the pace set by Illinois after 36 holes play.
Sophomore Adam Schenk paced the Boilermakers on Friday, shooting 75 (+3) in the morning and bouncing back with a one-under 71 in the afternoon for a total of 146 (+2). The Vincennes, Ind., native will stand in a tie for third place on Saturday when moving day at the Big Ten Championships gets under way.
Senior William Sjaichudin shot matching rounds of 75 (+3) to post a total of 150 (+6) and tie for 14th after the first day of play in French Lick. Classmate Tyler Duncan shot level par in the afternoon to move into a share of 20th place with a total of 152 (+8).
Junior Jakob Ziegler entered into a 27th-place tie on Friday with a 155 (+11), while freshman Justin Cho shot 161 (+17) on Friday and stands in a tie for 51st place.
Third-round play at the Big Ten Championships will commence at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, with the Boilermakers to go off of No. 1 starting at 9:40 a.m. ET. Live results will be available at golfstat.com.
