WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 74 Purdue men's tennis team won its first match of the day on Wednesday at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers blanked the No. 3 junior college team in the nation, Vincennes, 4-0.
Wednesday's match was played in a dual match tournament format meaning that first team to win two doubles matches would win the point. If a match remained on the courts, it would be suspended where it stood. The first team to an overall four points on the day would be the winner and any remaining matches would be left unfinished.
Purdue (9-10) two the first two doubles matches of the day. Szymon Tatarczyk and Krisztian Krocsko finished first with a win at No. 2. The duo knocked off Jose Louis Soto and Jose Andres Zaatini, 8-4. Pawel Poziomski and Mark Kovacs clinched the point with an 8-4 win at No. 3. The duo defeated Rafael Bulnes and Edward Spilman.
In singles, the Boilermakers continued to dominate. Aaron Dujovne was nearly perfect in his match at No. 4. The sophomore knocked off Bulnes, 6-0, 6-1. Poziomski gave Purdue a 3-0 lead with a win at No. 6. He defeated J.C. Pauli, 6-3, 6-4.
Krocsko clinched the match for Purdue over Vincennes (12-4). He won on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-1. Evan Hawkins and Tatarczyk were leading when their matches were suspended. Kovacs was tied at one set apiece.
The men will be back in action at 5 p.m. against IPFW. Admission is free at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Live stats will be available at PurdueSports.com.
