Boilermakers Beat Mastodons, 4-0

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 74 Purdue men's tennis team wrapped up a perfect day on the courts with its second shutout of the day. The Boilermakers beat IPFW, 4-0.

Purdue (10-10) played the Mastodons in a tournament style match. Once a team reached four points, the match was over and any remaining matches would be suspended. In doubles, Purdue came out and swept the point. Szymon Tatarczyk and Krisztian Krocsko were first to finish as the top Purdue pair won, 8-2. Pawel Poziomski and Mark Kovacs clinched the point with a win at No. 2. The duo knocked off Joao Freitas and Daniel Kang, 8-3. Evan Hawkins and Diego Acosta completed the sweep for Purdue. The freshmen won, 8-4, at No. 3.

IPFW (11-10) didn't fare much better in singles. Acosta was first to finish for Purdue as the birthday boy had a perfect day as he blanked Connor Andrews, 6-0, 6-0. Kovacs finished moments later with a shutout of his own. The sophomore defeated Roberto Cabrini, a former Boilermaker, 6-0, 6-0.

Hawkins clinched the match for Purdue with a win at No. 5. The West Lafayette, Ind., native defeated Freitas, 6-0, 6-2. Krocsko and Tatarczyk were leading on their courts when the match was decided.

Purdue is now 1-0 against IPFW.

The Boilermakers will return to Big Ten Conference play this weekend as they host Wisconsin and Minnesota. Purdue and Wisconsin will square off at noon on Saturday while the Boilermakers host Minnesota at noon on Sunday.
