ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 65 Purdue men's tennis team dropped a tough match at No. 34 Michigan on Saturday. The Boilermakers fell, 5-2, on the indoor courts.
Michigan (10-5, 3-1 Big Ten) took the first point of the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches. Krisztian Krocsko and Szymon Tatarczyk finished first for Purdue and knocked off Barrett Franks and Alex Buzzi, 8-3. The Boilermakers played tough in the reaming two matches, but came up short in both. Aaron Dujovne and Diego Acosta fell 8-5 to the No. 11 doubles team of Evan King and Shaun Bernstein. Pawel Poziomski and Mark Kovacs fell by the same score at No. 3 to Alex Petrone and Michael Zhu.
Purdue's (7-8, 1-2) deficit grew to 2-0 when King, ranked No. 10 in the country in singles, defeated Tatarczyk, 6-3, 6-0. The Wolverines then won at No. 2 and No. 5 to clinch the match with a 4-0 lead. Zhu increased the lead to 5-0 with a win at No. 3 before the Boilermakers were able to get on the board. Krocsko finished off his 2-0 combined day with a win at No. 4, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 1-0 (10-4). Evan Hawkins also won as he knocked off Eli Brown at No. 6, 7-6, 6-4.
The Boilermakers fall to 10-67 all-time against the Wolverines.
Purdue will be back in action tomorrow as the team travels to East Lansing, Mich., to take on the Michigan State Spartans. That match will begin at noon ET.
