WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Men's Tennis team came up just short against the No. 70 Denver Pioneers Friday at the Schwartz Tennis Center, 5-2.

Denver (5-7) started the afternoon by sweeping the highly contested doubles point. Yannick Weihs and Othar Kordsachia gave the Pioneers a one game lead with an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Pawel Poziomski and Krisztian Krocsko. The remaining two matches needed tiebreakers. Enej Bonin and Jens Vorkefeld clinched the point with a win at No. 1, 9-8 (7-1). Max Krammer and Fabio Biasion completed the sweep with a 9-8 (8-6) win at No. 2.

Purdue (4-3) evened the score at one when Krocsko defeated Alex Clinkenbeard, 6-1, 6-3. However, Denver answered with a win at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2. From there, the Pioneers never looked back. They increased their lead to 3-1 with a win at No. 4 from Biasion, 6-2, 7-5. Diego Acosta narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a win at No. 3, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. The freshman is now 6-1 on the season.

Weihs clinched the match for Denver with a win at No.2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Bonin ended the match with a win at No. 1, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, to make the final score of the match 5-2.

This match drops the Boilermakers to 1-1 all-time against Denver and 1-6 against the Sun Belt Conference.
