AUBURN, Ala. - Lauren Roth represented Purdue women's swimming and diving on the opening day of the NCAA Championships Thursday, competing in the 500 freestyle as the first of the three Boilers at the national championship meet this week to race.

Roth finished 50th in the preliminaries with a time of 4:50.02. She had qualified for the NCAA Championships with a school-record time of 4:42.12 at the Ohio State Invitational back in December.

Emily Fogle opted not to compete in the 200 IM Thursday, choosing to focus on the breaststroke events slated for the next two days. The 100 breaststroke is set for Friday and the 200 Saturday. Fogle's qualifying times were both among the top eight nationally.

Rhiannon Sheets is expected to make her debut at the NCAA Championships Friday. She'll compete in the 100 butterfly and will have the option of joining Roth in the 200 free.

Preliminary action Friday begins at noon ET.
