Bears Blank Boilers

LOS ANGELES - The No. 54 Purdue men's tennis team had a tough first day to its California spring break trip as the Boilermakers were defeated by the No. 38 Baylor Bears, 7-0.

Baylor (9-5) took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Roberto Maytin and Mate Zsiga won at No. 1, 8-4, while Kike Grangiero and Julian Bley won at No. 3, 8-1. Mark Kovacs and Diego Acosta won the lone doubles match for the Boilermakers at No. 2, 8-3.

Purdue (5-4) struggled to get things going in singles as well. No. 28 Zsiga won at No. 1 over Kovacs, 6-4, 6-0. No. 125 Maytin won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2. Acosta put up the toughest match for the Boilermakers at No. 3 as the freshman narrowly fell, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Bears won the matches at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 in straight sets.

Purdue falls to 0-2 all time against Baylor.

The Boilermakers will now head to San Diego to take part in the San Diego Invitational. Purdue will play Oklahoma State in the opening round on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET. A full recap of the action can be found at PurdueSports.com.
