WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 67 Purdue men's tennis team had little trouble in the nightcap on Saturday as the Boilermakers did not lose more than four games in any singles set en route to a 7-0 shutout of Butler.
Purdue (3-2) came out with momentum from the morning match and swept the doubles point. Diego Acosta and Mark Kovacs rallied from a slow start this morning to dominate in the even match with an 8-1 win over Stephen McLoughlin and Ruben Geeraert at No. 3. Krisztian Krocsko and Evan Hawkins clinched the point with an 8-4 win at No. 2 over Zach Ervin and Sam O'Neill. Szymon Tatarczyk and Aaron Dujovne made it a clean sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 1.
Butler (0-5) showed its youth with four freshmen in the lineup as the Bulldogs struggled to get anything going in singles. Pawel Poziomski showed fresh legs in singles after resting for doubles as he won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1 over Geeraert. Krocsko made it 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 thrashing at No. 5 over O'Neill.
Tatarczyk clinched the match with a perfect match at No. 2. The sophomore blanked senior Ervin, 6-0, 6-0. Acosta made it 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 just before Kovacs won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 over Austin Woldmoe. Dujovne finished the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 over McLoughlin.
The Boilermakers improve to 38-2 all-time against Butler. Purdue also extends its winning streak to 26 matches dating back to 1958.
Purdue will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 10, when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the Razorbacks. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET.
