RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Purdue men's golf team tied for the low round of the day, a nine-under 279, on Monday to move into second place after 36 holes of play at the Puerto Rico Classic.
The Boilermakers' performance tied for the 13th-best team round in program history, and equaled Alabama for Monday's best team score. Purdue owns a total of 568 (-8) through two rounds, and trails Alabama by 13 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.
Senior Tyler Duncan led the charge on Monday, carding seven birdies en route to a career-best round of 66 (-6). The effort matched the best individual round of the tournament so far, as leader James White of Georgia Tech also shot 66 on Monday.
The Columbus, Ind., native rests in fourth place with a total of 139 (-5), just three shots off White's pace heading into tomorrow's final round.
Senior William Sjaichudin was also on top of his game on Monday, posting a season-low 68 (-4) to move into a tie for fifth place with one round to play. Sjaichudin had six birdies on Monday, and will enter play tomorrow with a total of 141 (-3).
Two Boilermakers will tee off in the third round in a tie for 32nd place, as freshman Justin Cho and sophomore Adam Schenk shot 72 (E) and 79 (+7), respectively, on Monday to bring their totals to 147 (+3). Redshirt freshman Enzo Perez rebounded from a tough opening round with a one-over 73 on Monday, and is currently tied for 60th place with a score of 154 (+10).
