Freshmen Phenomenal As Boilers Blank Herd

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 41 Purdue women's tennis team blanked No. 66 Marshall on Sunday at the Schwartz Tennis Center, 7-0. Freshmen Lynda Xepoleas and Daniela Vidal were phenomenal as the duo won their doubles match, 8-1, and both blanked their singles opponent.

Purdue (6-1) got off to a quick start in doubles. Xepoleas and Vidal were first to finish with their 8-1 win at No. 3 over Karlyn Timko and Kia Broomfield. Imogen Golder and Gisella Pere finished soon after to clinch the doubles point with an 8-4 win at No. 2. Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt completed the sweep with an upset win at No. 1 doubles. Rabot and Schmidt knocked off the No. 51 pair, Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova, 8-6.

Marshall (3-4) struggled to find its rhythm in singles as well. Xepoleas played dominant tennis all day long and simply overpowered Voscekova at No. 2 en route to her 6-0, 6-0 victory. The next three matches ended almost simultaneously as the Boilermakers didn't drop a single game in the second set in any of them. Golder made the score 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 while Rabot clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1.

Vidal wrapped up the impressive day for the freshmen class with her 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Kristina Koprcina. Schmidt was next to finish as she seemed to gain momentum throughout her match. The sophomore won to make the score 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Pere completed the shutout for the Boilermakers with her win at No. 5. Pere won her match, 6-3, 6-2.

The Boilermakers improve to 2-0 all-time against Marshall.

Purdue is off for a couple weeks before opening Big Ten Conference play at Indiana on March 9. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
