BRADENTON, Fla. - The Purdue men's golf team finished in a tie for third at the shortened Big Ten Match Play Championship after dropping a semifinal match against Minnesota.
The Boilermakers and Golden Gophers battled down to the wire, finishing the match with three wins apiece for a 3-3-0 final score. Minnesota advanced to the championship match by way of total margin of victory.
The championship match, won by Northwestern, was the lone afternoon match contested due to the slow pace of play at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton.
Senior Tyler Duncan earned a 3&2 win over Minnesota's top player, Erik Van Rooyen, while sophomore Adam Schenk collected a 2-up victory over Robert Bell. Junior Jakob Ziegler defeated Tyler Lowenstein, 3&1, to provide Purdue with its third win.
The Boilers will return to action on Sunday when they host the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, P.R.
