Feb. 10, 2012

BRADENTON, Fla. - The fourth-seeded Purdue men's golf team opened the 2012 Big Ten Match Play Championship on Friday with a 5-1-0 win over Nebraska.

The Boilermakers will face Minnesota, which upset both fifth-seeded Michigan State and top-seeded Illinois on Friday, on Saturday morning in semifinal action. Purdue was the lone team among the top four seeds in the event to reach the semis.

Freshman Justin Cho posted Purdue's largest victory on the day, Neil Dufford by a score of 6&5. Junior Jakob Ziegler defeated Ryan Grassel, 6&4, while senior Tyler Duncan dispatched the Huskers' Scott Willman by a count of 4&3.

Senior William Sjaichudin earned a 3&1 victory over Ross Dickson, and redshirt freshman Enzo Perez pulled out a 1-up win over Jordan Reinerston to wrap up the Boilers in the win column on Friday.

Saturday's action will get under way at 7:30 a.m. ET from the Concession Golf Club. A morning-session win over Minnesota would pit the Boilermakers against the winner of the Northwestern-Ohio State match in Saturday afternoon's finals.
