NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Purdue women's tennis team finished the three-day Yale Invite on Sunday and knocked off Auburn in singles in the morning session, 5-1, and Tulsa in the afternoon in doubles, 2-1.
Against Auburn, the Boilermakers continued their dominance, especially at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Imogen Golder and Gisella Pere won in straight sets in those spots as Purdue did not lose a set in either position in any of the three singles matches.
In the morning doubles, freshmen Daniela Vidal and Lynda Xepoleas completed their 3-0 doubles weekend with a win over the Tulsa duo at No. 3. Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt put together a very emotional and intense win at the No. 1 singles spot which would have secured the doubles point if it were a standard dual match.
Since the weekend was hidden duals, none of Purdue's wins officially count towards any ITA standings or records. However, the Boilermakers were very impressive as if scoring would have counted, they would have won all three matches including upsets over No. 22 Tulsa and No. 30 Yale.
The Boilermakers continue action next weekend as they travel to South Carolina to take part in the Kick Off Weekend. The tournament will be hosted by Clemson.
