DALLAS - Runner-up finishes from Alec Back in the 3-meter diving and Brian Kiel in the 200 backstroke highlighted the second and final night of competition for Purdue men's swimming and diving at the Classic @ SMU.
The Boilermakers scored 236 points to finish sixth as a team among a field that featured five nationally-ranked programs. No. 4 Michigan won the prestigious weekend meet with 315 points.
Kiel finished second in the championship final of the 200 backstroke. His time of 1:46.35 was the second-fastest overall of the night among the event's two heats.
Back took second in the 3-meter diving with a personal-best and Purdue season-high score of 369.75.
Albert Miller (third in A final of 200 breast), Alec LaMothe (third in B final of 500 free) and the 200 medley relay team of Kiel, Albert Miller, G. Daniel Michael and Matt Friede also finished among the top half of their respective heats, which featured six entries.
The Boilermakers return to action next Saturday (Jan. 21) for the annual rivalry dual meet against Indiana. The co-ed dual in Bloomington will be televised live by the Big Ten Network, marking the first live swimming telecast on the network. Platform diving will begin at 10 a.m. and the swimming events will start at 11:30 a.m. in conjunction with the live telecast.
