WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Robbie Hummel scored 19 points to help Purdue defeat Western Carolina 65-60 on Wednesday night.

Hummel added seven rebounds and four assists. Lewis Jackson scored 15 points and Ryne Smith added nine points and six rebounds for the Boilermakers (8-2), who won their 23rd straight home game.

Purdue was coming off a loss to No. 11 Xavier in which it squandered a 19-point lead in the second half.

Harouna Mutombo had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Trey Sumler and Keaton Cole added 15 points each for Western Carolina (5-5).

Purdue shot just 39 percent from the field and made only 19 of 36 free throws. The Boilermakers got away with it because they held the Catamounts to 37 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers.

Western Carolina, which lost by 25 at South Carolina. 32 at Iowa State and 20 at Northern Iowa, led 29-21 at the break.
