Hawkins Wins Twice On Sunday At Big Tens

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Purdue men's tennis team wrapped up its action at the Big Ten Singles Championships and freshman Evan Hawkins again had a nice day on the courts.

Hawkins and Thomas Kroczek were the final two Boilermakers alive in the back draw heading into Sunday's action. In the morning's 8 a.m. CT match, Kroczek fell to Iowa's Tomlins, 7-6, 6-1. That left just Hawkins who had to face the Hawkeyes' Mroziewicz. Hawkins prevailed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Next, the Purdue freshman faced Froment of Minnesota. Hawkins jumped out fast in the first set and hung on in the end for a 6-0, 2-6, (10-7) win. In his consolation final, Hawkins faced Michigan State's Hulewicz, but fell, 6-3, 6-1.

The finals of the tournament will be played tomorrow in Iowa City, Iowa. Purdue will be off for a few days until the team sees if it has any qualifiers for the ITA Indoor Championships. Those draws will be announced in the next few days. The tournament is scheduled to run from Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
