Boilers Top Miami (Ohio) For Dual Meet Win

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Brian Kiel won a pair of individual events and Chuck Destro captured the 100 freestyle along with contributing on a pair of victorious relay teams, leading Purdue men's swimming to a 170-127 dual meet victory against Miami (Ohio) Friday evening at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

Destro swam the butterfly leg on the 200 medley relay winner and the third leg on the 400 free relay team. Ben Wachtel, Noah Pashley and Sebastien Aube also contributed to the 400 free relay time.

Kiel won the 200 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. Wachtel finished first in the 50 free to go along with swimming the leadoff leg on the 400 free relay.

Freshmen Manuel Gutierrez and Jan Petric both won an event and finished second in another. Gutierrez captured the 200 individual medley and finished second to Vinny Donnelly in the 1,000 free. Petric touched first in the 500 free and finished second to Andrew Starr in the 200 free.

Purdue won 13 of the 14 swimming events Friday, all but the 200 breaststroke. That event saw Miami's Brendan Melling out touch Jacob McGough by six one-hundredths of a second. McGough also finished second to Eduard Galdeano in the 200 butterlfy.

While also posting individual victories, Brendan Joyce (100 fly) and Tyler Gertz (100 back) teamed with Alec LaMothe and Steven Ung for a 400 free relay time of 3:09.95.

Purdue returns to action next weekend when its hosts Notre Dame (Friday) and Northwestern (Saturday) for back-to-back co-ed dual meets at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. The Notre Dame meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.
