DUBLIN, Ohio - Paced by two players in red figures on the day, the Purdue men's golf team turned in its best round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational on Tuesday to finish the tournament in eighth place.
The Boilermakers shot 292 (+4) as a group on Tuesday, the second-best final-round effort in the field, to jump three spots on the leader board. The Boilers finished the two-day event with a total of 894 (+30).
Senior Tyler Duncan continued his stellar fall with a final-round 69 (-3) to earn a tie for second place, just two strokes off the pace, with a total of 211 (-5). The finish was the highest of the Columbus, Ind., native's career, and his third top-three showing in as many outings this season.
Duncan has been at par or better in eight of Purdue's nine rounds on the season, and leads the team with a 70.56 scoring average.
Freshman Justin Cho used a final-round 73 (+1) to move his total to 223 (+7) and earn a share of 18th place in his collegiate debut, while classmate Ben-Marvin Egel fired a season-best 71 (-1) on Tuesday and finished in a 25th-place tie with a final tally of 225 (+9).
Junior Jakob Ziegler finished the tournament in a tie for 48th with a total of 235 (+19), while sophomore Adam Schenk placed 57th with a score of 244 (+28).
The Boilermakers have a quick turnaround before heading to the Windon Memorial Classic in Skokie, Ill. The 54-hole event will be hosted by Northwestern at Evanston Golf Club on Sunday and Monday, with live results scheduled to be available at golfstatresults.com.
