VERONA, N.Y. - The Purdue men's golf team shot a sizzling 10-under 566 on the opening day of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate to finish the day in second place, three strokes off the lead.
The Boilermakers will head into Monday's final round trailing Baylor by three shots in their bid to repeat as champions in the tournament's third iteration.
Senior Tyler Duncan and sophomore Adam Schenk paced the Boilers throughout the day, both finishing in a tie for fourth place with a total of 139 (-5). Duncan posted rounds of 70 (-2) and 69 (-3), while Schenk, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, carded rounds of 65 (-7) and 74 (+2), with the former matching his collegiate best for a single round.
Senior William Sjaichudin tallied a three-under 141 on the strength of a first-round 69, finishing the day in a tie for eighth place. Redshirt freshman Enzo Perez shot 147 (+3) to wrap up the day in a tie for 28th, while junior Jakob Zieglerrecorded a 152 (+8) to finish the afternoon in a 46th-place tie.
The final round of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate will be contested on Monday, beginning with an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start.
