Men's Golf In 11th After 18 Holes In Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Purdue men's golf team fired a six-over 290 on Thursday to finish the opening round of the NCAA Arizona Regional in 11th place.

The top five teams from the Arizona Regional, as with each of the six NCAA Regional sites, advance to the NCAA Championships at month's end. When play begins on Friday, Purdue will stand just nine strokes behind Arizona and Texas A&M, who finished the day tied for fourth.

Freshman Adam Schenk used consecutive birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 to turn in an even-par 71 on Friday, finishing the day in a tie for 18th place. Junior William Sjaichudin carded a one-over 72 after playing 17 of the day's 18 holes at level par, and concluded the first round in a 30th-place tie.

Junior Tyler Duncan also shot 72 on Thursday to grab a share of 30th place on the strength of three birdies, while senior Erich Johnston shot 75 (+4) to tie for 53rd and sophomore Henry Plager checked in with a 78 (+7) to earn a share of 69th place.
