Men's Golf Tied For Fifth After 36 Holes Of Big Ten Championships Play

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team turned in a solid second-round effort on Friday to finish the first 36 holes of the Big Ten Championships in a tie for fifth place.

The Boilermakers wrapped up the day with a team total of 594, tied with Northwestern at 18 shots over par. Purdue shot 293 (+5) as a unit in the second round, tied for the second-lowest performance of the afternoon.

The Boilers will enter play on Saturday just two shots behind fourth-place Michigan, and just 13 strokes off the pace set by Illinois.

Freshman Adam Schenk rebounded from a first-round 80 to shoot 67 (-5) in Friday's afternoon session, finishing the day in a tie for 12th place with a total of 147 (+3). The performance tied the second-lowest 18-hole score of Schenk's collegiate tenure.

Junior William Sjaichudin also signed his card with a three-over 147, tied with Schenk and four others for 12th place, after shooting rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1). Sophomore Henry Plager and freshman Sam Fu each finished the day in a tie for 36th after shooting 153 (+9), while senior Erich Johnston carded a total of 154 (+10) on Friday to enter into a share of 41st place.

Saturday will feature 18 holes of play at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, with tee times set to begin at 9 a.m. ET off both No. 1 and No. 10. For more information on the Big Ten Championships, please click here.
