MINNEAPOLIS - The Purdue men's tennis team dropped a close decision at No. 20 Minnesota on Sunday, 4-3, at the Baseline Tennis Center.
"We had a great opportunity to beat a top 20 opponent on its home court, but we came up just a few points short," head coach Pawel Gajdzik said. "Our guys battled, but ultimately we just didn't have enough juice to come up with the win. We have to get better from this and take it as a valuable learning experience."
After Minnesota swept Purdue (10-11, 1-6 Big Ten) in doubles to take a 1-0 lead, the Boilermakers put up a tough fight in singles. Mark Kovacs played his first match of the season at No. 2 and came away with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 victory. Aaron Dujovne picked up his first win at No. 4 in just his second time in that spot, 7-6, 6-1. Eric Ramos also picked up a point for Purdue as he came from behind to win at No. 5, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Purdue will be back in action on Sunday for its final home match of the season as it hosts Northwestern. Live stats for the match will be available at purduesports.com
