AVON, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team fired an even-par 288 on Monday to finish the opening day of the Butler Spring Invitational at the top of the leader board.
The Boilermakers will head into Tuesday's action with a seven-shot edge on both Dayton and Loyola (Ill.) after both shot 295 on Monday.
Junior William Sjaichudin continued his recent stellar play, firing a six-under 66 to grab a four-shot individual lead. The performance was the second-best of Sjaichudin's career, and his fourth-straight round at par or better after he won the Furman Intercollegiate last week.
Freshman Adam Schenk carded an even-par 72, good for a fifth-place tie, on Monday, while junior Tyler Duncan's two-over 74 earned him a share of 11th place after one day of competition. Freshman Sam Fu shot 76 (+4) to enter into a tie for 34th, and senior Erich Johnston recorded a six-over 78 to enter the clubhouse in a tie for 40th.
Playing as an individual, senior Nakarintra Ratanakul shot 76 (+4) to join Fu in a tie for 24th place after a day of play.
The Boilermakers and the rest of the field will wrap up the Butler Spring Invitational with a 10:30 a.m. ET shotgun start on Tuesday.
