CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell 5-2 to the 68th-ranked team in the nation, Harvard, on Sunday in a weekend second-half. The Boilermakers could not manage a rebound after losing a heartbreaker to Boston College (4-3) on Saturday.
Purdue uncharacteristically dropped the doubles point (2-1), but claimed the top doubles win. No. 17 pair Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt defeated Kristin Norton and Hideko Tachibana 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
However, individually junior Rabot fell at No. 1 singles to 47th-ranked player, Holly Cao 6-0, 6-3.
Sophomore Imogen Golder made her match count for the Boilermakers. The Auckland, New Zealand native easily eliminated Hannah Morrill 6-3 in the first set, before finishing her off 6-3, 6-2 and putting her at 2-0 for the weekend.
Also taking an overall point for Purdue was sophomore Gisella Pere. At No. 6, Pere only needed two sets to beat Alexandra Lehman 7-5, 6-4.
The clinching match for the Crimson was on the third court where senior Bhavani Tirumurti asserted herself in the first set, 6-3 over Norton. From there the two split sets and set No. 3 went to Norton, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Boilermakers now face a two-week hiatus, during which the Old Gold and Black squad will train and look ahead to jumping into their Big Ten Conference slate by hosting No. 37 Indiana at the Schwartz Tennis Center on March 12.
