WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell for only the second time this season on Saturday in a 4-3 nail bitter to a talented Boston College squad at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass.
The Old Gold and Black claimed the doubles point for the seventh time this spring. In the top doubles slot, No. 17 doubles team, Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt, worked Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev 8-5 while Anna Dushkina and Gisella Pere overpowered Erina Kikuchi and Veronica Corning 8-4.
Moving onto singles, Boston College evened out the score 1-all, taking an overall point at No. 4 when Veronica Corning defeated Dushkina 6-4, 6-2. The Eagles pulled ahead with a win at No. 3 singles when Katarina Gajic ended Tirumurti's undefeated streak, 6-2, 7-5.
At that point, Rabot stepped up with a two set win 6-1, 7-5 over Alex Kelleher for a 2-2 overall score.
Boston College took their third overall point with a 7-5, 7-5 success by Katharine Attwell over Pere.
Freshman Schmidt dropped her first set to Erina Kikuchi 6-4, but came back to take a 6-1 second set. It fell to the third set that settled in the Eagle's favor for Kikuchi 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Consequently, sophomore Golder surged back from a first set defeat to beat Olga Khmylev 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3 at No. 6.
The Boilermakers look to bounce back against the 68th-ranked Harvard on Sunday at the Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Facility in Boston for a noon dual.
