SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Boilermaker softball team put on a hitting and base running clinic in an 11-2 win over the Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday morning. Senior Shelby Krammer went 3-for-3 to lead the way for the Purdue bats.

Rookies Lindsey Rains and Kim McMillan also posted multi-hit efforts with two apiece. Eight of the nine Boilermaker batters tallied a hit in the contest.

Freshman Lauren Grant picked up the complete-game victory and allowed just four hits in the run-rule win. Tori Torrescano was saddled with the loss for ISU after allowing six runs in less than a third of an inning of action. Breeanna Holliday and Lauren Kennewell also saw time in the circle for the Cyclones.

The Boilermaker bats were on fire in the first inning, putting up six runs on six hits and an error as the team batted around. Junior Molly Garst led off with a single to left. Freshman Andie Varsho followed with one of her own. Garst swiped third and the pitcher's throw over sailed into left field, allowing her to score and bumping Varsho over to second. A passed ball pushed Varsho to third. Rains walked and stole second, allowing Varsho to swipe home on the back half of the play. Sophomore Erika Petruzzi brought Rains home with a triple to right center, then scored on a single to left by freshman Tori Chiodo. A McMillan single to left and an illegal pitch put two runners in scoring position for Krammer, who delivered on the RBI opportunity with a double to right center. An illegal pitch moved Krammer to third. Garst joined her on base with a two-out walk and stole second, but both were left stranded by a grounder to the shortstop.

The Cyclones managed a single in the second and a double in the third, but could not score.

Purdue tacked on a pair of runs on three hits and an error in the third. Krammer started the inning with single up the middle. Pinch runner MaryBeth Pavlick advanced to third on a wild pitch and a bunt single by senior Aimee Gingerich. A fielding error by the shortstop put Garst aboard to load the bases. A fielder's choice play at the plate accounted for the first out, but Rains came through with a two-run single up the middle the next play to make it 8-0. Rains went to second on the throw home, while Garst wound up at third, but a grounder kept both from scoring.

Iowa State snapped the shutout bid with a two-run home run in the fourth. A fielder's choice put a runner on with one out, then Dalyn Varela put the Cyclones on the board.

The Boilermakers added three runs on a pair of hits in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Chiodo walked and McMillan followed with a single up the middle. Krammer picked up an RBI with a single up the middle. The throw home moved both Krammer and McMillan into scoring position. Gingerich drove in McMillan from third with a ground ball to the second baseman. An illegal pitch brought Krammer home from third.

The Cyclones threatened in the fifth, but came up empty to cap the run-rule victory for Purdue. Carleigh Berry posted a one-out double and moved to third on a ground out, but a grounder to the second baseman wrapped up the Boilermaker win.

The Boilermakers (4-3) return to action at 1 p.m. ET when they take on the host Texas State Bobcats.
